On February 13, 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection approved the permits for Sunoco’s Mariner East Phase 2 pipeline project, which will transport natural gas liquids across Pennsylvania to the Marcus Hook Refinery outside of Philadelphia. The Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter supports this project and applauds the Department on their long-awaited approvals of the project.
This pipeline represents one of the largest private capital investments in Pennsylvania’s history. Projections show that the Mariner East 2 Pipeline could generate upwards of $4.2 billion for Pennsylvania’s economy and $62 million in tax revenues for the state. An additional $90 million would be invested annually to operate the pipeline once built. Moreover, the project will create up to 7,000 construction jobs in Pennsylvania alone, and up to 400 once operational.
The Chapter has testified to the Department at public comment hearings and supports both the environmental and economic reviews of the project. This project is designed to be developed and operated with minimal disruption or impact to landowners and the environment, and our contractors and tradespeople are prepared with the expertise and safety training to execute the project responsibly.
