THE BEST JOB EVER
Becoming an IBEW electrician is a challenge. However, if you make the cut, you will be set for life. Does having access to a free education, a six figure job, and incredible retirement and health care benefits sound good to you? How about all of this while never having to look for a new job again?
STEP 1: Apply for Our Apprenticeship
If you have fewer than 12,000 hours working in the electrical construction industry, your journey begins by applying to join our apprentice training program.
STEP 2: Earn While You Learn
Once you are accepted into our apprenticeship, you will go to school for five years (for FREE) in Philly’s Navy Yard. When you’re not in class, you’ll be working real jobs and making real money under the supervision of an Electrical Journeyworker.
STEP 3: Become a Journeyworker
As you progress through your apprenticeship, you’ll make more and more money. After completing five years of schooling and 12,000 hours of work, you’ll graduate and become an IBEW Journeyworker, earning a six figure salary and full benefits.
STEP 1: Contact Our Organizer
If you have more than 12,000 hours working in the electrical construction industry, contact us to determine if you can “organize” as a Journeyworker.
STEP 2: Pass a Skills Test
If the IBEW determines that you have met the working hours requirement, you may be asked to complete a skills test. If you pass that test and a contractor needs you on a job, you may be able to get to work in as little as a week.
STEP 3: Become a Journeyworker
Once you’re accepted into the IBEW and working for a NECA contractor, you’ll be officially named a Journeyworker. You’ll be entitled to all of the great pay and benefits that comes with this role. As long as you do your job well, you’ve made it!
STEP 1: Apply With WePowerAmerica
If you have experience as a non-union electrician and need a job right now, certain immediate hiring opportunities could be available.
STEP 2: Wait for a Job to Open
We will review your application. If a contractor needs you to fill an open position, they will ask the Local Union to refer you out to a job.
STEP 3: Go to Work
If you are selected, the IBEW will notify you. You’ll be connected with your employer, who will be a NECA Contractor, and you will be given additional information on your work duties.
YOUR CAREER WILL EVOLVE
After becoming a Journeyworker, there are many ways your career could go. If you want to put in a hard day’s work in Philadelphia and receive a day’s pay for 30 years, that’s an option. If you want to travel elsewhere and do the same, you can.
However, if you ever decide you want to try something new, having experience as a Journeyworker opens up doors for you. Explore more potential career paths below.
